According to Hoyle the normal procedure is to "lifts the upper portion of the pack clear of the lower portion and places it alongside. The formerly lower portion is then replaced on top of the formerly upper portion". Other methods are usually acceptable, except maybe using an axe or knife to make the cut.

Common courtesy rule says cut it once to not delay the game.

The term I've heard for that type of cut is a whorehouse cut. Have no idea where the term came from but never heard it was illegal.

The term came about because the person cutting the cards wanted to wait as long as possible to play because he was usually being serviced under the table (at a whore house).
So in turn, he would cut the deck as many ways as possible to prolong his time being serviced

So in essence you are saying that it was protocol in those days that once the cards are cut, all extra-curricular activites must cease ? Almost as if law dictated that there will be no "ingesting of baby batter" once a deck of cards is cut. In this big-headed fella's opinion, i could think of nothing better than "Little Nubbie" being massaged pre-cut, during the cut, and post-cut. Maybe that's just me though. just sayin !

Tom
you're right about the service but just think, if we applied that rule now how many people would have to put their damned cell phones down. |

I get annoyed when people cut more than once, illegal or not. I shuffled the cards and I shuffle well, as far as I am concerned the purpose of the cut is to make sure you didn't stack the deck, cutting more than once defeats the purpose, and wastes my time.

I don't doubt you would. There was this guy at champs who I had to give the evil stare to a few times before he stopped doing it, at least while I was at his table.
